Analytical writing essay10/17/2023 The guide's job is to take people from place to place, showing them things that make the city special. One way to think about voice is to see yourself as the TOUR GUIDE of your essay. This is analysis and it is what gives voice to your essay. In a research paper, there is some literature review, typically towards the beginning, but the larger goal is to DO SOMETHING with this literature to show your own take on the topic. This is different from a literature review, which simply reviews what others have said about a topic. The goal of a research paper is to use the literature (your research) to support your own unique argument. This is a great question, and it gets to the heart of what analysis looks like in a research paper. Several people have asked me what I mean when I ask for more VOICE in your essay.
